Becoming a better volleyball coach.

_____Let me introduce myself. My name is Joe Williams and I am a High School girls volleyball coach and also a USAV Juniors club volleyball coach. I have been coaching for about eleven years now. I am an everyday coach that has gone through the same learning curve and growing pains as you. I have found through learning over the years that so much of the coaching experience has to do with what takes place off the court. Dealing with parents, the Athletic Directors or Club Directors, or players that don’t want to conform to team rules can be very taxing to a coach. This is a blog about what I have found works in dealing with different coaching situations, mostly off the court. You will find that establishing a firm set of team rules is a big part of your coaching success.

_____ I’ve grown to like coaching so much that I actually coach all year now. High School in the fall, USAV Juniors club volleyball in the winter and spring, and then the High School summer league. I am CAP ONE certified and also have attended the best school of all: The school of hard knocks. My teams have won many tournaments over the years and also had tournaments that ended with results far below my expectations. Every tournament I have ever been in has had one thing in common. I have learned and gained experience with every match my team has ever been in.

_____Coaching is the most wonderful, frustrating, and rewarding  profession that a person can choose. This blog is a recording of my learning experiences through the years as both a volunteer coach and a paid coach. I am writing  this in the hope that you can learn from my experiences and what you read here will help you in your coaching.

_______I have won many tournaments over the years, but you won’t hear me talking about my accomplishments here. I am here to share my experiences of growing and learning as a coach. Likewise, this site is not for learning drills, etc. There are hundreds of resources out there for this, some of which I have listed in this site. This site is dedicated to
learning how to deal with the everyday problems and experiences of coaching.

_______Let me make one thing real clear. There is no one correct way of coaching. If you talked to ten different coaches and asked them a question about a particular aspect of coaching, you would get ten different answers. It’a all about what works for you. As you learn to refine your coaching, you will find you use a combination of your own style along with several styles learned from other coaches.

_____I will be posting new articles once or twice a week, so be sure to come back and check in for the latest updates.
